Server upgrades - ZombieLoad

10 June 2019

All of our serves have now been rebooted into a new kernel which includes a patch for the Microarchitectural Data Sampling ("ZombieLoad") processor vulnerability. Total downtime was between 10 and 30 seconds for each server.

We still have a longer upgrade to perform on one of our servers for extra RAM and storage, which will take 10-20 minutes, but that only affects a handful of websites.

Update: we now have a timeline for the hardware component of the MDS patch. Each server has been allocated a 2-hour window (actual downtime will be less) with dates between 27 June and 2 July.
