Hotmail/Outlook email problems - UPDATED

27 April 2015

Some of our clients are having problems today receiving emails from their website to their Hotmail account (@hotmail.com, @outlook.com or @live.com.au).

At issue appears to be Outlook's incorrect use of the Backscatterer.org IP list DNSBL to block all inbound emails rather than just to block NDR emails as instructed:

ref: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn499795.aspx

"According to the instructions on the Backscatterer website, the use of reject mode for all incoming mail isn't a recommended configuration or use of that service. It should be used in safe mode instead."

If you are experience this issue and not receiving emails sent to your website email address please contact your email provider to report the problem and request a whitelisting of the Chirp mail server (mail.chirp.com.au).

There are no problems currently with relaying emails to any other ISPs.

UPDATE: Outlook.com Deliverability Support have agreed to unblock our ip address and this will happen over the next 24-48 hours.
