Server migration and downtime - UPDATED

18 November 2014

We are in the process of moving websites to a new cloud server and hope to complete the move by the end of the year. There may be a short interruption to service while domain names are in transit, but nothing more than a few minutes.

The advantage of the cloud is that we have access to extra backups in the form of live snapshots of the server - so the entire installation can be recovered at any time. This is in addition to our off-site backups which allow for retrieval of specific data and files.

Using the cloud also allows us to ramp up server resources as required without having to replace any hardware - as we're about to do now.

As always, apologies for any inconvenience.

Updates

  • Tuesday 18 Nov There will be a longer downtime either tonight or tomorrow - up to 30 minutes - as we need to increase the server capacity to handle the load. This has been completed now.
  • Wednesday 19 Nov Some of our SSL websites were offline for a few hours this morning. This was due to a hardware failure at the host and not with our server.
